Kawasaki Heavy Industries (Kawasaki) and CB&I, a subsidiary of McDermott, have signed a significant agreement to promote a commercial-use liquefied hydrogen (LH2) supply chain and work towards a zero-carbon-emission society.

The signing happened at the Gastech Exhibition & Conference in Houston on September 18, 2024.

“Building and launching a commercial liquefied hydrogen supply chain in cooperation with CB&I is a great opportunity,” said Motohiko Nishimura, President of Energy Solutions & Marine Engineering at Kawasaki. Both companies will use their expertise to reduce hydrogen costs, enhance the hydrogen supply chain, and help transition to a zero-carbon society.

CB&I and Kawasaki will provide infrastructure for international-scale LH2 supply chains to achieve carbon-neutrality. By combining their strengths, they aim to reduce costs and scale up the entire supply chain efficiently. Mark Butts, Senior Vice President of CB&I, highlighted the strategic partnership’s role in advancing liquid hydrogen storage solutions globally.

Under the agreement, the collaboration will focus on global infrastructure to meet decarbonization goals, reducing LH2 infrastructure costs, and promoting wider use of clean energy.
