KBR has been given a contract to help CrossWind, a joint venture between Shell and the Dutch utility company Eneco, with an innovative offshore energy storage project.

KBR will do a front-end engineering design of the baseload power hub (BLPH) for the offshore Netherlands Hollandse Kust (north) wind farm.

KBR and Shell will design and build megawatt-scale facilities that store lithium-ion batteries and make green hydrogen through electrolysis. During times of high power production, the design will let hydrogen be made and electricity stored. During times of low power production, a fuel cell will turn hydrogen into electricity.
