Keppel, together with Mitsubishi Power Asia Pacific and Jurong Engineering consortium, has started the construction of the Keppel Sakra Cogen Plant (KSC Plant), Singapore’s first hydrogen-ready cogeneration plant.
The groundbreaking ceremony, graced by esteemed dignitaries, marks a pivotal moment for Singapore’s clean energy transition and commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
The groundbreaking of the KSC Plant comes as Singapore recognizes hydrogen as a key decarbonization pathway. Designed to co-fire with 30% hydrogen content initially, the state-of-the-art 600MW advanced combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power plant has the flexibility to transition to 100% hydrogen operation as Singapore’s power sector undergoes decarbonization.
The plant’s strategic location in the Sakra sector of Jurong Island enables it to serve as a cogeneration facility, providing steam for energy and chemicals customers, further contributing to the nation’s industrial processes.
Anticipated to be completed by the first half of 2026, the KSC Plant will be Singapore’s most energy-efficient power generation facility. Its superior performance, featuring lower emission intensity and higher operation flexibility, is projected to save up to 220,000 tons of CO2 annually compared to Singapore’s average operating efficiency for equivalent power generation. This achievement translates to removing approximately 47,000 cars from the roads each year.
