This year, the government will provide a total of 16,920 hydrogen-powered automobiles with subsidies. In the case of hydrogen passenger cars, the supply of hydrogen vehicles will be increased significantly by providing a subsidy of 30 million won per unit, which includes local and governmental costs.

The Ministry of Environment has announced that it would work with local governments to organize an information session on hydrogen car subsidy programs for local governments in each region, such as the metropolitan area, the central area, and the southern area, from the 31st to the 7th of next month.

16,920 vehicles in all will receive subsidies for hydrogen-powered vehicles this year, including 16,000 passenger cars, 700 buses (400 in the city and 300 in the metro area), 100 freight cars, and 120 cleaning trucks. From 340 last year to 920 this year, the number of commercial hydrogen vehicles supported, including buses, freight, and cleaning trucks, has more than doubled. On the 16th, several local governments began submitting and accepting applications for hydrogen vehicle subsidies through the “Integrated Pollution-Free Vehicle Library.”

The local government of the buyer’s residence may offer a subsidy for the purchase of hydrogen vehicles up to 22.5 million won depending on passenger automobiles to individuals or corporations who wish to do so. You can receive up to 30 million won if you factor in local expenses between 1000 and 11 million won, with 32.5 million won (Incheon) and 33.5 million won (Busan).

Through this regional information session, the Ministry of the Environment will discuss the direction of promoting customized supply projects taking into account regional supply conditions, such as the status of hydrogen refueling stations, and share the best practices of hydrogen vehicle supply from last year.

This information session will be held three times for each region in particular, and it is anticipated that we will be able to connect with local governments more effectively than during the previous information sessions for all local governments.

The greatest annual supply of hydrogen vehicles since the hydrogen car subsidy scheme started, 10,256 hydrogen automobiles were provided by the Ministry of Environment last year. With a total supply of 29,733 automobiles, the supply of hydrogen vehicles has continuously increased every year.

The 2030 National Greenhouse Gas Reduction Goal (NDC) is difficult to achieve without the supply of hydrogen vehicles, which are pollution-free vehicles. For this reason, we will continue to promote the hydrogen vehicle supply policy, according to Park Yeon-jae, air environment policy officer at the Ministry of Environment.
