Korean company Eltech UVC is spearheading the establishment of the world’s inaugural port dedicated to the transportation of solar energy-based green hydrogen and green ammonia.
The groundbreaking ceremony, held at the Ruwais Hamra Special Hydrogen Zone in Abu Dhabi, UAE, marks a significant leap in global efforts to harness green energy for international trade and domestic consumption.
Eltech UVC envisions a multifaceted project, commencing with the construction of a dedicated port for the transportation of green hydrogen and ammonia. Once the essential infrastructure is in place, the company plans to embark on the development of a solar power-based 200MW green hydrogen and ammonia plant, laying the foundation for a robust and sustainable supply chain.
The technological backbone of this ambitious project is centered on solar energy-based production. By leveraging abundant sunlight in the Ruwais Hamra region, Eltech UVC aims to optimize green hydrogen production with a low unit cost of solar power generation. The venture not only pioneers the creation of a port infrastructure but also pushes the boundaries of solar-powered green energy on an industrial scale.
The implications of this project are far-reaching. Eltech UVC plans to import substantial quantities of green ammonia into Korea annually, supplying it nationwide, starting from 2027. The strategic location of the Ruwais Hamra region, coupled with the support from the UAE government, positions it to become a key export hub for green hydrogen and ammonia. The venture has the potential to contribute significantly to Korea’s green energy landscape and strengthen its energy independence.
