Lhyfe, a global leader in green and renewable hydrogen production, has signed a collaboration agreement with Capital Energy, a Spanish energy producer and distributor, to jointly develop offshore renewable hydrogen projects in Spain and Portugal.
Lhyfe, listed on EURONEXT, is known for its expertise in offshore hydrogen production projects and is at the forefront of the green hydrogen industry.
The partnership between Lhyfe and Capital Energy will focus on establishing hydrogen production facilities at offshore wind farm sites currently being developed by Capital Energy. The Spanish energy company already has a robust development pipeline of more than 7.5 gigawatts (GW) in both countries.
The collaboration between the two companies brings significant benefits in terms of economics and social impact. By integrating offshore wind farms and hydrogen production sites, economies of scale can be achieved, leading to cost efficiencies. Moreover, the projects will generate employment opportunities, engaging a wider range of suppliers and specialists.
These initiatives have broader implications for the energy system as a whole. By integrating wind energy produced from the offshore wind farms into the hydrogen production process, the controllability of wind power generation can be enhanced, minimizing curtailments. In cases of grid congestion, excess power can be directed towards hydrogen production, ensuring optimal utilization of renewable energy resources.
The partnership between Capital Energy and Lhyfe has the potential to extend to other markets in the future, broadening the scope of their collaborative efforts.
Lhyfe stands out as the only company worldwide with an operational prototype for offshore green hydrogen production. The company’s Sealhyfe system, inaugurated in France in September 2022, serves as a testament to their technical capabilities. Lhyfe aims to expand its green hydrogen production capacity to 200 MW by the end of 2026 and an impressive 3 GW by the end of 2030. With ongoing projects in 11 countries, Lhyfe boasts a dedicated team of more than 149 professionals solely focused on renewable hydrogen production.
