For its first green hydrogen hub, Lion Energy has inked a heads of agreement (HoA) with the Port of Brisbane.
At the Port of Brisbane, Lion Energy will construct and run its first hydrogen generation and refueling hub, with a focus on heavy mobility fleets. The center will be put into operation in the first quarter of 2024, and important equipment is already being bought.
“The location at the Port of Brisbane is highly strategic due to its proximity to the majority of Brisbane’s 70-plus bus depots, and also the significant heavy vehicle traffic to and from the port,” said Lion Energy executive chairperson Tom Soulsby.
“Our site will initially produce and dispense some 420 kg green hydrogen a day, but with the ability to quickly double production to respond to increasing demand. We are proud to bring the first commercial-sized green hydrogen facility in Queensland in early 2024.”
The HoA is contingent on a contract and the board of the Port of Brisbane’s approval, both of which Lion Energy anticipates obtaining by April.
