Swedish eFuel producer, Liquid Wind, along with Umeå Energi and Wasaline, signed a Letter of Intent. According to the proposal, the companies are considering the sale and supply of eMethanol from the eFuel facility situated in Umeå, Sweden.
The focus will be on exploring possibilities to power Wasaline’s shipping line, the northernmost in the world, with eMethanol from the FlagshipTHREE plant located in Umeå.
Wasaline operates a hybrid ferry, the Aurora Botnia, which is equipped with dual-fuel engines and batteries. The company’s objective is to entirely decarbonize their ferry operations between Vaasa, Finland, and Umeå, Sweden. Liquid Wind’s CEO, Claes Fredriksson, opined on the partnership for powering Aurora Botnia with eMethanol, emphasizing local and regional scope.
Jan Ridfeldt, Umeå Energi’s CEO, commented positively on the alliance expansion with Liquid Wind and the addition of Wasaline to their partners. He accentuated how crucial cross-border collaborations are for shifting towards a greener future. Peter Ståhlberg, the managing director of Wasaline, explained how they are looking into reducing carbon emissions on their route as part of a green corridor between Vaasa and Umeå.
Liquid Wind’s project, FlagshipTHREE, is projected to start eMethanol production in 2027, with an anticipated output of 100,000 tons per year.chat.completion
