McLaren Applied and BAK Motors have agreed to work together on component development for a hydrogen hybrid hypercar.

McLaren will develop and supply drivetrain components for the Kincsem Hyper GT and SUV, including inverters and motors, as part of the strategic agreement. The Kincsem Hyper GT and SUV is also known as the world’s first nano-photonic light activated solid-state hydrogen hybrid hyper-car.

McLaren will delve deeper into the hydrogen industry and support the growing hydrogen community as a result of this. McLaren Applied’s new IPG5 800V Silicon Carbide inverter has been chosen by BAK Motors to maximize the vehicle’s range while also supporting faster charging – a key feature of the vehicle.

Furthermore, the inverter and motor’s impressively low mass and volume reduce overall vehicle weight, make packaging easier, and contribute significantly to a superior driving experience and performance.

The drivetrain will be integrated into a BAK-RICARDO hydrogen-powered hybrid engine that combines hydrogen and battery-electric efficiency.
