Hexagon Purus will receive Meritor’s Blue HorizonTM 14XeTM ePowertrains for a near-term development program with the goal of moving the program into production.

In North America, Meritor’s ePowertrain will be employed in two hydrogen fuel-cell electric vehicle applications. A Class 8 drayage vehicle and a yard hauler are among the applications.

Hexagon Purus and Meritor partnered to incorporate the 14XeTM ePowertrain into Hexagon Purus’ Class 6, Class 7 trucks, and Class 8 (6×4) vehicles, according to the release. The Hexagon Purus trucks will be propelled by integrated electric powertrains, resulting in zero-emission transportation.

Tim Bowes, senior vice president and president, Electrification, Industrial, and North America Aftermarket, Meritor, said, “We are happy to cooperate with Hexagon Purus as we pursue our paths to zero emissions.”

Meritor Blue Horizon ePowertrains are engineered to be as efficient and adaptable as possible. Their revolutionary design allows them to be adjusted based on specific application needs for commercial vehicles in the Class 5-8 range.

Hexagon Purus Systems President Todd Sloan remarked, “As the push for electrification grows, we are pleased to join with Meritor, who shares our goal of meeting the zero emissions challenge.”
