To attract Chinese investment in Namibia’s green hydrogen project, President Hage Geingob has been courting the country’s business community in China.
When asked about the possibility of Chinese companies participating in government initiatives to boost China’s economy, outgoing Chinese ambassador Zhang Yiming said, “We’re open to it.”
“We just discussed new cooperations, like in the green hydrogen project. The president is very keen and looking forward that capable Chinese state-owned enterprises, which have the latest technology in green hydrogen come to invest or partner with Namibian companies to participate in the green hydrogen project,” Zhang said.
Zhang assured Geingob that China is putting renewable energy development at the top of its agenda and aims to become carbon neutral by 2026.
As a result of their efforts, he said, the Chinese nationals working in Namibia have been discouraged from engaging in poaching activities, and the Namibian government has worked with them to do so.
