SGN has placed a purchase order with Nel Hydrogen Electrolyser AS for a 5MW alkaline water electrolyzer for the world’s first 100% hydrogen-to-homes heating network on Scotland’s east coast.
The 5MW Alkaline Electrolyser is a fully redundant system, with installation and commissioning as well as a service and maintenance contract included in the contract. The electrolyzer will provide SGN’s H100 Fife project in Levenmouth, Scotland, with up to 2,093kg of green hydrogen per day at 30barg.
This is the world’s first 100 percent hydrogen network of scale, serving consumers with green hydrogen generated by electrolysis for heating and cooking. A neighboring offshore wind turbine and grid electricity will power the system.
The newly constructed hydrogen gas distribution network will initially provide zero-carbon heat to up to 300 houses, but the electrolyzer and network have been scaled to service up to 900 homes as part of the H100 Fife project’s planned future development.
“Nel is honored to be part of this new milestone achieved in the development of a commercial green hydrogen infrastructure, clearly showing that hydrogen for domestic use is becoming a reality today. We look forward to delivering a reliable, safe, and efficient source of green hydrogen,” says Raymond Schmid, VP Sales, and Marketing EMEA, Nel Hydrogen Electrolyser.
