The construction of the Neom green hydrogen plant in northwestern Saudi Arabia has reached 60% completion.

The plant is scheduled to start operations by the end of 2026. This large-scale project, being developed by Neom, ACWA Power, and US-based Air Products, marks a significant step towards sustainable energy solutions.

The plant is designed to produce around 600 tonnes of green hydrogen daily, which will be used to generate 1.2 million tonnes of green ammonia each year. Air Products will be the sole off-taker of the ammonia produced. The company has already secured a 30-year purchase agreement, ensuring 35% of the plant’s output is accounted for. They are currently in talks with potential clients for purchases that will exceed the plant’s production capacity.

The entire project demands an investment of USD 8.4 billion. Air Products holds a one-third stake, with the remaining investment coming from the Saudi state-backed partners Neom and ACWA Power. The facility will be powered by over 4 GW of solar and wind energy, reinforcing its commitment to renewable energy.
