In order to help the EU achieve its sustainability goals, Nikola and E.ON Hydrogen intend to lower the cost of hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEV) so that they are comparable to diesel-powered automobiles.

The cooperation will give clients a “first-of-its-kind integrated mobility solution” by combining sales of Nikola hydrogen trucks with services and hydrogen fueling infrastructure solutions.

It is envisioned that by 2027, Europe will have access to enough hydrogen to power up to 5,000 Nikola Tre FCEVs. By 2027, the use of these vehicles might reduce CO2 emissions by about 560,000 metric tonnes.

The joint venture will span the whole hydrogen industry value chain, from the provision of FCEVs to the development of a demand-driven fueling infrastructure and the supply of green hydrogen.

In collaboration with IVECO, Nikola Corporation earlier this year unveiled the European Nikola Tre BEV and FCEV Beta Version at IAA transportation.

The Nikola Tre FCEV Beta is anticipated to go on sale in North America in the second half of 2023 and in Europe in the first half of 2024.
