The Nordex Group has received the IEC Type Certificate, which is valid worldwide, in compliance with the IEC 61400-22 standard for the N149/5.X turbine from TÜV SÜD.

In the past few months, TÜV SÜD has been testing and evaluating the overall concept as well as all the key components of the N149/5.X turbine as part of a type certification process focused on international IEC standards.

With the type certificate, the independent certification agency has now verified the assessment of the design efficiency of N149/5.X with the applicable standard as well as the conduct of the turbine in the field on the basis of the type test.

The turbine can be operated with standard rotor blades and anti-icing rotor blades for cold regions.

Another part of the type certification is the assessment of the manufacture and production of wind turbine generators. The Nordex Group and its global suppliers of components for N149/5.X have set up a certified quality control system in compliance with ISO 9001:2015.

Manufacturing inspections by the certifying agent have been carried out to confirm the quality-compliant production of the components and the WTG in compliance with the approved construction documents.

The certification of type IEC 61400-22 is of particular importance for the international marketing of type N149/5.X. Investors, project developers and wind farm operators require their wind turbine generators to be accredited in compliance with international standards. In this context, IEC certification is as a rule, considered a requirement for tendering for international wind power projects. This is a recognized practice and an important step in the process of project approval.
