Orascom Construction has joined the Green Hydrogen Consortium, which also includes Fertiglobe and Egypt’s Sovereign Fund, to create the country’s first green hydrogen production facility.
The production facility will be primarily composed of a 100 MW PEM (Polymer Electrolyte Membrane) electrolyzer, which when completed will be the world’s largest independently owned plant and Egypt’s first, putting the project at the forefront of future green hydrogen production.
The created green hydrogen will be used as a feedstock for up to 90,000 tons of green ammonia at EBIC, Fertiglobe’s ammonia manufacturing facility in Ain Al Sokhna, Egypt.
Orascom Construction is scheduled to carry out the local work necessary to exhibit the green hydrogen facility at COP 27 in Egypt in November 2022, demonstrating the Group’s and Egypt’s commitment to a greener future.
This game-changing initiative exemplifies Orascom Construction’s desire to become a key player in the region’s green hydrogen economy.
