In Villeta, Paraguay, ATOME Energy has purchased a 75-acre (30-hectare) land for a green hydrogen and ammonia manufacturing complex.
ATOME has agreed to pay a local landowner US$900,000 for the location next to the Villeta substation for the project, with completion anticipated in four months.
According to ATOME, the Villeta plant is expected to eventually be a 400Mw project in Paraguay, and its location allows for expansion up to that capacity.
Additionally, it is adjacent to the Villeta port facilities on the River Paraguay, 35 kilometers from the capital Asuncion, and a canal to the Atlantic Ocean that is also utilized by local fertilizer firms, who are anticipated to be some of the plant’s key clients.
“The large 75-acre footprint not only gives ATOME the space it needs for future expansion and storage, but it also gives ATOME the scale to grow its business footprint, attract related industries, and create new, sustainable jobs,” said Olivier Mussat, the company’s chief executive.
On September 8, 2022, at Invest in Paraguay, ATOME added chair Peter Levine will talk alongside ANDE’s president and the general director of ITAIPU BINACIONAL, the second-largest hydroelectric dam in the world. James Spalding, who is currently president of ATOME Paraguay, formerly held that role.
