The first generation of green hydrogen fuel or green hydrogen is anticipated to begin in 2023 by PT Pertamina in the Ulubelu geothermal working area (WKP). The daily production objective is 100 kg, as reported by CNBC Indonesia.

Fuadi Arif Nasution, Vice President of Business Planning & Portfolio at PT Pertamina Power Indonesia, revealed that a green hydrogen pilot project with a daily production target of 100 kilos is being created in the Ulubelu region.

Fuadi stated in the discussion on Drinking the Clean Energy Transition Business Opportunity that the estimate is roughly 100 kilograms per day, with a goal date of 2023.

According to him, Pertamina is responsible for the environmental permit application procedure at the Ministry of Environment and Forestry. Where the company focuses on the environmental impact analysis (AMDAL) modification process, which is one of the requirements.

“The utilized technology exists. We currently have an offtaker, RU Plaju. However, we are currently refining the Amdal for license, therefore it is not yet available; please pray that it will be soon,” he stated.

However, Fuad has been unable to disclose the amount of investment that Pertamina must make for the trial project. Nonetheless, it is undeniable that investments in green hydrogen are substantial.

This is more of a pilot effort to learn the procedure. We cannot discuss the investment strategy in detail since it’s our kitchen,” he stated.
