PEUGEOT’s first production Hydrogen vehicle rolled off the assembly line on December 13th, 2021.

PEUGEOT becomes one of the first manufacturers to provide a hydrogen fuel cell-powered commercial vehicle in addition to its combustion and battery electric models.

Linda JACKSON, CEO of the PEUGEOT brand, said: “With the e-EXPERT Hydrogen, PEUGEOT is taking the lead in a future zero-emission technology that is particularly relevant to the light commercial vehicle market: hydrogen electric technology allows intensive daily use without the need for recharging, a decisive advantage for professionals who, in a single day, have to cover several hundred kilometres on the motorway and then enter emission-restricted urban areas. The hydrogen technology developed by Stellantis and implemented in our PEUGEOT e-Expert Hydrogen makes such uses possible.”

PEUGEOT’s hydrogen van is distinguished by the seamless integration of the whole “mid-power plug-in hydrogen fuel cell electric” system within the engine compartment and underbody. As a result, there is no sacrifice on load volume, and the low center of gravity ensures stability, safety, and agility.

PEUGEOT e-EXPERT Hydrogen deliveries can now begin. The first customer, who will receive the vehicle before the end of the year holidays, is WATEA by MICHELIN, the MICHELIN group’s new company committed to green mobility solutions.

The e-EXPERT Hydrogen, which will enter production at the end of 2021, is the newest manifestation of the brand’s “Extended power of choice” philosophy, which enables customers to select from a diverse selection of engines to meet their unique requirements.

The hydrogen fuel cell electric variant demonstrates the Peugeot EXPERT range’s quick electrification implementation. Its production launch comes less than 15 months after the launch of the battery-powered e-EXPERT model in 2020, which was won International Van of the Year in early 2021, making it PEUGEOT’s sixth such title since 1992.

The PEUGEOT e-EXPERT Hydrogen is a hydrogen-powered version of the e-EXPERT. It is initially manufactured in France at the Hordain facility (Nord, Hauts de France), before being assembled in Germany in Rüsselsheim on the production lines of Stellantis’ competence center for hydrogen technology.

The new PEUGEOT e-EXPERT Hydrogen is distinguished by a STELLANTIS-exclusive “mid-power plug-in hydrogen fuel cell electric” system:

  • Owing to the hydrogen stored in the tank, the fuel cell generates the electricity required to propel the car.
  • A 10.5 kWh lithium-ion rechargeable battery that can be recharged from the grid and also powers the electric powertrain during specific driving phases.

The new PEUGEOT e-EXPERT Hydrogen is distinguished by the following characteristics:

  • Its capacity to travel the entire distance without emitting local CO2,
  • Its ability to refuel with hydrogen in three minutes for a range of over 400 kilometers on the WLTP homologation cycle (under homologation),
  • A charging outlet for the high-voltage battery is included, as are two lengths (Standard and Long) with the same loading volume characteristics as the diesel and battery electric variants.
  • Maximum load volume of 6.1m3,
  • A payload of up to 1000 kg is possible.
  • Towing capacity of up to 1000 kg
  • With a top speed of 130 km/h, it is adaptable to all road and highway conditions.

The new PEUGEOT e-EXPERT Hydrogen is a technologically advanced vehicle with a strong personality. It can be driven everywhere, including city centers, silently and without emitting CO2, and without sacrificing useful performance, comfort, or driving pleasure.

Hydrogen is rapidly emerging as a critical component of the energy transition, as seen by the announcement of numerous multinational initiatives. The ecosystem is booming in Europe in particular, with the European Clean Hydrogen Alliance investing an estimated €60 billion to promote this option.

The number of hydrogen stations in Europe is constantly expanding as a result of government initiatives, and the PEUGEOT brand is collaborating directly with energy suppliers to offer package packages.

PEUGEOT is establishing itself as a prominent participant in this energy issue with the introduction of its revolutionary e-EXPERT Hydrogen.
