Scatec and its partners, OCI NV, Fertiglobe, The Sovereign Fund of Egypt, and Orascom Construction, have chosen Plug Power as the electrolyser technology provider for the 100 MW green hydrogen facility to be built at the Egyptian Basic Industries Corporation SAE (EBIC) facility in Ain Sokhna, Egypt. The hydrogen will be converted into green ammonia.

When it comes online, the 100 MW PEM (Polymer Electrolyte Membrane) electrolyser will be the largest in the world. Egypt is an ideal location for green hydrogen production due to its unique renewables profile, which includes high solar and wind loads, as well as its proximity to markets with a hydrogen deficit.

Green ammonia, which is produced from renewable energy sources such as solar and wind rather than natural gas, is a versatile product that is an ideal carrier fuel for storing and transporting hydrogen and can help decarbonize a variety of industries.
