In this episode of the ICIS Hydrogen Insights podcast, hydrogen editor Jake Stones speaks with Tree Energy Solutions (TES) chief technology officer Jens Schmidt. Schmidt explains the TES process, which utilises captured carbon emissions and combines the carbon atom with renewable hydrogen produced outside of Europe, transporting the hydrogen as green methane.
The first TES project will operate out of Wilhelmshaven Green Energy Hub, with first gas delivered by 2025. TES aims to produce 300,000 tonnes/year of renewable hydrogen by 2026, with production costs for the solution, based on current market prices, at €4-5/kg of renewable hydrogen – with potential for cost reductions as technology efficiencies improve.
