Japan Suiso Energy (JSE), Iwatani Corporation, and Eneos Corporation are working on a supply chain commercialization demonstration project for hydrogen as part of the Large-Scale Hydrogen Supply Chain Establishment (Nedo) Green Innovation Fund Project.
For this project, they have carried out feasibility studies and chosen sites, including the Port of Hastings in Victoria, Australia, for a hydrogen export site, and the coastal area of Kawasaki in Japan, for the site of interest.
The purpose of the project is to develop clean liquefied hydrogen shipping technologies in order to meet the Japanese government’s target of having a hydrogen supply cost of $ 0.23 per nm3 by the year 2030 at the port of entry. Collaboration between the project and potential clients, business partners working on hydrogen power production demonstration projects, and local governments will help to build an international supply chain for liquefied hydrogen. By 2050, Japan will have achieved carbon neutrality.
Hastings Industrial Port was chosen as a viable location for the hydrogen shipment since Victoria’s hydrogen from coal will be provided locally, enhancing energy security. The project is currently in the technical inquiry stage for building and operations.
