The PosHYdon project, a pioneering initiative in the North Sea, aims to revolutionize the production of green hydrogen on an operational gas platform.

With the commencement of onshore testing at InVesta in Alkmaar, the PosHYdon project marks a significant milestone. The transition of the electrolyzer offshore to Neptune Energy’s Q13a-A platform sets the stage for offshore hydrogen production, slated for the fourth quarter of 2024.

PosHYdon stands out for its integration of three offshore energy systems – offshore wind, offshore gas, and offshore hydrogen. The project’s location on Neptune Energy’s green electrified platform underscores its commitment to sustainable energy solutions.

A key aspect of the project involves blending green hydrogen with gas and transporting it to the coast via existing pipelines. The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy’s support through increased blending specifications reflects a strategic move towards decarbonization.

René Peters highlights PosHYdon’s role in advancing system integration and offshore green hydrogen production. The project serves as a blueprint for large-scale wind farm development and underscores the potential for cost-effective offshore energy solutions.

The consortium comprising 15 public and private organizations underscores the collaborative effort driving PosHYdon forward. By leveraging expertise across various sectors, the project aims to address technical challenges and pave the way for sustainable energy transitions.
