PowerCell Sweden and Siemens Energy have signed a long-term collaboration agreement in the field of fuel cell-based propulsion and power generation systems for marine applications.
The agreement is based on a Memorandum of Understanding signed in August 2018 by both companies. Siemens Energy has placed an order for a 100kW marine fuel-cell module as part of the expanded collaboration.
Siemens Energy will test the module as part of the company’s research and development of fuel cell-based marine systems for propulsion and power generation. The ordered module has a 100kW output and is based on the strategic partnership between Siemens Energy and PowerCell. It represents the first step in translating the strategic partnership between Siemens Energy and PowerCell into market offers.
PowerCell Sweden AB and Siemens Energy signed a Memorandum of Understanding in August 2018 to collaborate on the development of fuel cell-based propulsion and power generation systems for marine applications. Since then, the two companies have formalized their collaboration with an agreement that grants both companies the status of preferred supplier within the collaboration area. Siemens Energy, for example, has contributed to the development of central power components for PowerCell’s Marine System 200, which will be unveiled in 2021.
