PowerTap Hydrogen Fueling Corp. and Coleman Industrial Gases have embarked on a groundbreaking collaboration to accelerate the adoption of hydrogen fuel cell electric trucks (FCET).

In a significant move toward sustainable transportation and cleaner energy, the two companies have signed a non-binding letter of intent (LOI) to negotiate and establish a CO2 and hydrogen purchase agreement.

The heart of this partnership lies in PowerTap’s commitment to provide Coleman with food-grade CO2 and fueling-grade hydrogen, which will fuel Coleman’s forthcoming fleet of FCETs. This represents a crucial step toward reducing carbon emissions in the transportation sector.

PowerTap, known for its cutting-edge hydrogen production and fueling solutions, will deploy its state-of-the-art equipment at multiple locations to ensure a seamless supply chain.

One of the innovative aspects of this collaboration is the potential integration of Coleman affiliate CMC Dry Ice Manufacturing LLC and PowerTap US refueling stations at a co-located distribution center. This strategic move aims to eliminate the need for transporting CO2 separately. CMC will supply the dry ice produced to PowerTap FCET OEMs and fleet operators, offering a cost-competitive resource for cold transport of sensitive products like vaccines and produce.

PowerTap and Coleman are working diligently towards a definitive agreement, with a target date set for December 31. This agreement will solidify their commitment to driving the hydrogen revolution in the transportation sector.

Already, PowerTap and Coleman have planned a dual-purpose storage and delivery system. In this setup, PowerTap US’ hydrogen production hubs will utilize Coleman’s rail-based tankers as CO2 storage tanks, streamlining operations and enhancing efficiency.

As the world increasingly pivots towards sustainable energy and transportation, partnerships like this one between PowerTap and Coleman are instrumental in driving change. Together, they aim to not only reduce carbon emissions but also make hydrogen-powered transport more accessible and practical, marking a significant step toward a greener future.
