Haskel, Protium, and Nel Hydrogen have partnered to collaborate on Project HEART to enable the acceleration of hydrogen-powered aircraft at UK airports.

Part funded by the UK Research and Innovation Future Flight Challenge, the project will facilitate end-to-end hydrogen infrastructure capable of safely fuelling hydrogen aircraft and showcase the feasibility of green hydrogen technology within the aviation sector.

Haskel will integrate its ultra-efficient hydrogen compression system with a Nel electrolyser – a UK deployment record of the largest molecule distribution at scale equipment for Nel – delivering hydrogen to power a fuel cell-powered aircraft during trials.

Project HEART will initially focus on regional airports, developing a refuelling solution catering to 9-19 passenger aircrafts and a range of 500 miles.

Project HEART is a significant step forward in the development of hydrogen-powered aircraft. The project has the potential to accelerate the commercialization of hydrogen aircraft and help to reduce the environmental impact of the aviation sector. The project is also expected to create jobs and boost the UK economy.
