Provaris Energy, an Australia-based developer of green hydrogen projects, has embarked on the fabrication of the H2Neo prototype tank in Norway.

The H2Neo prototype tank, constructed by Prodtex AS and tested by SINTEF, represents the world’s first prototype-scale compressed hydrogen tank. Utilizing Provaris’ proprietary design, the tank features layered carbon steel and a stainless-steel liner, ensuring durability and safety in storing hydrogen. With dimensions of 2.5-meter diameter and 9-meter length, the tank boasts a capacity for 650 kilograms of hydrogen at a design pressure of 250 bar.

Provaris Energy’s ambitious project has garnered significant attention and investment, with the company raising $1.9 million to fund the fabrication and testing of the prototype tank. Scheduled for completion by mid-2024, the project aims to obtain final Class Approvals from marine classification societies DNV and ABS, further validating the safety and reliability of the technology.

In addition to its technical achievements, Provaris Energy has also made strides in forging strategic partnerships with prominent international energy companies. Through non-binding memorandums of understanding (MoUs), Provaris aims to assess its complete hydrogen delivery chain, including innovative solutions for regional hydrogen delivery via its H2Leo barge and H2Neo carriers.
