PV Hardware (PVH) and Larsen & Toubro (L&T) have inked a contract aiming to revolutionize the renewable energy sector by developing the world’s largest hydrogen plant powered entirely by renewable energy.

The contract, announced recently by PVH, stipulates the delivery of solar trackers for a massive 2.97 GWp Solar Photovoltaic (PV) plant. This green energy behemoth, located in Oxagon, will play a pivotal role in fuelling the NEOM Green Hydrogen Company (NGHC)’s ambitious project.

The NGHC is poised to manufacture carbon-free hydrogen using exclusively green energy sources such as wind and solar power. The plant is expected to produce an impressive 600 tonnes of carbon-free hydrogen per day by the end of 2026. This project aligns perfectly with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s 2030 Vision for a clean and sustainable energy future.

The undertaking on this scale is no small feat, and L&T, with its vast experience in the field, has been awarded the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract. The Indian multinational will develop a 2.2 GWac PV Solar Plant, a 1.65 GW Wind Generation Balance Plant, and a 400 MWh Battery Energy Storage System under the Power Elements package. Alongside these, they will also construct three 380 kV Switching Stations and 306 KM of 380 kV Overhead lines and Underground Cables needed for the Kingdom’s Grid network.

Expressing his commitment towards this grand venture, Ivan Higueras, Chairman of PVH, stated: “We have solidified our position as the leading solar tracker supplier in the Middle East with localized production in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and we are committed and dedicated to supporting the Kingdom’s clean energy goals”.

T Madhava Das, Whole-Time Director & Sr. Executive Vice President (Utilities) at Larsen & Toubro, echoed a similar sentiment, expressing pleasure at collaborating with PVH on such a monumental project.

The solar trackers, the heart of the PV solar plant, will be provided by PVH, a well-established manufacturer of innovative solar tracking solutions for the global solar energy market. PVH’s technologies, including solar trackers, fixed structures, and SCADA systems, are recognized globally for their reliability and efficiency.

This landmark project stands testament to the unrelenting pursuit of sustainable energy solutions, marking a significant step in the journey toward a greener future. The fruits of this partnership have the potential to revolutionize the hydrogen economy, bringing forth a new era of clean energy in Saudi Arabia and beyond.
