Thessalonica HydroShip, a Floating Green Hydrogen Production Vessel, is a joint venture between RINA and 5M Renewables under a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).

Owners, charterers, and other stakeholders will benefit from a carbon credit offset program that is part of this partnership, which will aid in the decarbonization of the marine and energy sectors. The vessel design and the topside production, which includes the green hydrogen production and distribution systems, will be the focus of the collaboration.

The Thessalonica HydroShip uses wind or tidal stream turbines to generate green hydrogen from renewable energy. To produce cost-competitive green hydrogen, it does not necessitate the use of an FPSO, which greatly reduces the overall levelized cost of energy (LCOE). With the use of prefabricated wind/tidal stream turbines and other proven plant equipment, the cost-competitive green hydrogen produced at near shore distances will be optimized.

To further reduce long-term operating costs, this eliminates the need for intercontinental delivery point transport and logistics. Standards such as EU-ETS, GS, Verra, and JCM will be included in the Thessalonica HydroShip configuration options.
