SalmoNor is gearing up to construct the first hydrogen-powered workboat for the aquaculture industry.

According to the NTS group’s newly acquired family-run salmon farm, a final investment decision will be made by the end of June. The price hasn’t been made public.

Bunkering, or refuelling the ship, has been proven to be fully developed and is ready for construction, according to this report.

The ready-to-build concept features a 145 kW fuel cell and four separate tanks with a combined hydrogen storage capacity of 120 kilograms. The boat is powered by two 105-kilowatt electric propulsion engines, a 276-kilowatt-hour battery pack, and a 40-ton crane.

Moen Marin, Marin Design, and MOEN Verft collaborate on product development and design. The yard’s Kolvereid facility in Naerysund will construct the vessel. Following approval, construction will begin this fall and the vessel is expected to be operational by year’s end.
