In order to collaborate on the hydrogen business using “SPERA hydrogen” technology, Samsung C&T Construction Division and Chiyoda Chemical Engineering & Construction in Japan inked a memorandum of understanding.

With the signing of this agreement, Samsung C&T intends to actively look for related business opportunities as well as take part in the construction of the “SPERA Hydrogen” plant in Chiyoda, a pioneer in the LOHC (Liquid Organic Hydrogen Carrier) method, a new hydrogen transport and storage technology.

Future decarbonization project discussions and collaboration in the liquid organic hydrogen carrier method hydrogen business are both priorities for Samsung C&T and Chiyoda.

In the SPERA hydrogen process, hydrogen is combined with the chemical toluene to produce the long-distance transportable and storable methylcyclohexane (MCH), which is then transported.

Through this agreement, Samsung C&T broadens the scope of its operations to cover not only the production and supply of green hydrogen but also the entire “production, transportation, storage, and supply” of green hydrogen, as well as stable transportation and storage technology at room temperature and normal pressure that have been demonstrated.
