S&B has completed the largest electrolytic liquid hydrogen production facility in the United States.

Located in Woodbine, Georgia, this project was developed for Plug Power and is set to play a crucial role in advancing the production of green hydrogen in the country. The facility’s operational readiness was highlighted by the first filling of a tanker with liquid green hydrogen in February 2024, signifying the beginning of its supply operations.

At the core of this facility is the deployment of the largest proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzer system in the United States. Boasting the capacity to generate 15 metric tons of liquefied hydrogen on a daily basis, the plant is strategically positioned to cater to major clients such as Walmart, Amazon, and Home Depot. These industry giants will utilize the green hydrogen for various purposes including material handling operations, powering fuel cell electric vehicles, and stationary power applications.

The scope of S&B’s involvement in this project encompassed engineering, procurement, and construction activities, with the initiative officially commencing in 2022. It is worth noting that S&B had previously undertaken engineering work for a hydrogen test facility operated by Plug in Woodbine, showcasing a successful track record of collaboration between the two entities.
