Schlötter, in collaboration with iChemAnalytics, has introduced a cutting-edge test rig that promises to revolutionize hydrogen embrittlement testing.

This technology enables the rapid testing of up to 20 items simultaneously, drastically reducing testing time to a mere 180 seconds.

The fastening parts market’s growing demand for high-strength materials necessitates a meticulous focus on potential hydrogen embrittlement during electroplating. As material strength increases, so does the risk of hydrogen-induced brittle fractures. Schlötter’s goal is to address this challenge effectively and efficiently.

The WSRME TWIN precision measuring device is at the heart of Schlötter’s innovative solution. This device facilitates versatile C-body testing, adhering to the latest standards, in a fraction of the time traditionally required. Utilizing C-ring samples, it detects changes in material conditions induced by factors such as liquid metal exposure, hardness variations, tempering, or hydrogen embrittlement.

Traditionally, comparable tests consumed several days. However, Schlötter’s WSRME TWIN device, with its unique design and precise testing concept, completes the testing process in a remarkable two to three minutes. This efficiency empowers manufacturers and coaters to integrate standard-compliant work, process monitoring, and quality assurance into their production autonomously, eliminating the dependence on external testing services.

Schlötter’s new testing method relies on a mechanical load test where force displacement curves are recorded. The WSRME TWIN device incorporates parameterizable measuring programs for individual measuring cells, enabling parallel testing. High-resolution force sensors and precise measurement curves yield high-quality characteristic values, providing a basis for enhancing in-house processes and products.
