SEDC Energy Sdn Bhd and Petronas Technology Ventures Sdn Bhd (PTVSB) recently signed a partnership agreement for hydrogen technology.

In order to meet the rising demand for PEM electrolyzers around the world, the Heads of Agreement (HOA) sought to develop an assembly factory for PEM electrolyzers (H2PEM) for hydrogen production in Sarawak.

It is also important to look at other green hydrogen technology deployments in the state and other areas.

The HOA also includes a partnership with PTVSB to provide hydrogen production systems to the Rembus Hydrogen Plant and Refueling Depot, according to a statement from the wholly owned subsidiary of Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC).

It was designed to feed hydrogen to the planned Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS), which will be run by SEDC’s Sarawak Metro and feature hydrogen fuel cell vehicles.

Sarawak will once more play a significant part in the hydrogen value chain by forging ahead with the assembly and manufacture of electrolyzers, according to the corporation.

Additionally, it will enable Sarawak’s citizens to contribute to economic growth while ensuring the state is taking the proper steps to mitigate the effects of climate change.

According to the statement, Sarawak is “blessed in many ways, particularly in the abundance of natural resources, including water, and with reasonably priced hydroelectric power, has allowed us to explore green hydrogen production as well as expansion into other hydrogen-related technologies throughout the value chain, which supports our Green Energy Agenda.”

As we engage in the scientific and technological transfer of knowledge to our own local workforce, SEDC Chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr Abdul Aziz stated that creating such synergistic joint ventures would help to enable chances for our own talent development.
