The H100 Fife hydrogen houses demonstration facility’s construction was officially kicked off by gas distribution company SGN hosting senior representatives of the Fife Council and neighborhood housing associations.
The fact that the project has achieved its minimum enrollment target of 270 participants and is still allowing more houses to opt-in was also well-received by the participants.
Visitors will be able to test out domestic hydrogen appliances at the new demonstration center, which will include two hydrogen show homes. Together with the project’s hydrogen production and storage site, the facility is being developed in Fife Energy Park by Marshalls Construction and is scheduled to open this summer. Leading boiler producers Baxi and Worcester Bosch, who are project partners, will supply hydrogen boilers for both the project and the exhibition homes.
With the H100 Fife project, residents of Buckhaven and Denbeath can choose to receive hydrogen over a new network that will go operational in 2024. It will be the first completely eco-friendly hydrogen-to-homes zero carbon network built anywhere in the world, and it will offer crucial data that will aid the UK’s decarbonization of home heating.
Enthusiasm for the project means SGN has more households signed up for it than its target of at least 270 participants.
