South Korea, a nation actively pursuing a sustainable energy future, recently hosted its largest hydrogen industry exhibition, H2 MEET 2023. With participation from 303 companies representing 18 countries, the event showcased the latest advancements in clean energy technologies, ranging from hydrogen-fueled vehicles and drones to innovative energy systems.

Hyundai Motor Group: Leading the Charge

One of the standout exhibitors at H2 MEET 2023 was Hyundai Motor Group, which set up an expansive booth spanning 1,125 square meters. The automaker used this platform to showcase its comprehensive hydrogen ecosystem, from production and transportation to utilization. A notable reveal during the event was Hyundai’s hydrogen-fueled electric garbage truck, exemplifying its commitment to sustainable transport solutions.

Hyundai also presented innovative hydrogen business models, demonstrating collaboration with sister companies to achieve carbon neutrality throughout the entire hydrogen production and supply chain. This holistic approach underscores the company’s dedication to reducing emissions.

POSCO Holdings Inc.: A Green Hydrogen Vision

POSCO Holdings Inc., the parent company of steelmaker POSCO Co. and electric vehicle battery materials producer POSCO Future M Co., captivated attendees with a diorama showcasing its green hydrogen project in Oman. Last year, a consortium led by POSCO Holdings and Samsung Engineering Co. secured a contract with Oman valued at $7 billion to $8 billion. This agreement involves the construction and operation of green hydrogen production facilities in Oman, reflecting a significant international commitment to clean energy.

Hanwha Group: An Integrated Hydrogen Value Chain

Hanwha Group presented an integrated value chain, covering hydrogen production, storage, transportation, and fuel cell manufacturing. Various subsidiaries, including Hanwha Corp., Hanwha Energy Corp., Hanwha Solutions Corp., and Hanwha Impact Corp., showcased their water electrolysis technology, used to generate hydrogen from water using electricity sourced from renewables like solar and wind power. Hanwha Solutions introduced a high-pressure tank for hydrogen storage and transportation, as well as a hydrogen fuel cell-powered drone.

Kolon Industries Inc.: Advancing Hydrogen Fuel Cell Materials

Kolon Industries Inc. unveiled essential materials for hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, including polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM), membrane electrode assembly (MEA), and moisture control devices. These materials play a crucial role in enhancing the efficiency and performance of hydrogen-powered vehicles. During the event, Kolon Industries and Kolon Plastics Inc. signed a memorandum of understanding with the South Korean unit of RWE, Germany’s largest power generation company, regarding the supply and use of renewable energy.

Korea Zinc: Showcasing Green Hydrogen Value Chain

Korea Zinc showcased its green hydrogen value chain through a captivating diorama. This demonstration illustrated the various stages involved in green hydrogen production and distribution. Korea Zinc’s participation underlined the growing importance of green hydrogen in the country’s energy landscape.
