Spain is stepping up its efforts to expand renewable energy and green hydrogen production by 2030. The Council of Ministers has approved a new plan aimed at significantly increasing the country’s capacity for wind and solar power.
Under the new plan, Spain aims to raise its wind power capacity to 62 gigawatts (GW). This is a substantial increase from previous targets. The country also plans to more than double its solar power capacity. These ambitious targets reflect Spain’s commitment to transitioning to renewable energy sources.
In addition to wind and solar, Spain is putting a strong emphasis on green hydrogen. This form of hydrogen is produced using renewable energy sources and is seen as a key component in the transition to a more sustainable energy system.
Teresa Ribera RodrÃguez, Spain’s third vice-president and minister for ecological transition and demographic challenge, is overseeing these energy transition initiatives. Her leadership is crucial in driving the country’s renewable energy policies forward.
