The Spanish Ministry for the Ecological Transition will issue a new call for proposals in the next weeks for a 150 million euro aid package to be given to cutting-edge hydrogen-related initiatives, to which ideas that were excluded because the previous call’s budget was exhausted may be submitted.
Teresa Ribera, the minister in charge of ecological transition, made this announcement at the start of the Energy 2023 Summit. The appeal for the hydrogen value chain includes 150 million euros for pioneering initiatives and another 150 million euros for big electrolyzers, hydrogen vehicle prototypes, and manufacturing and testing facilities.
The Ministry is launching this new call in the coming weeks to invest in more projects as a result of the success of prior calls, which have attracted more than 800 proposals, according to Ribera.
The Strategy Programme for the Recovery and Economic Transformation of Renewable Energies, Renewable Hydrogen, and Storage, which has 6,900 million euros in public funding and aims to mobilize up to 16,300 million euros, includes all of these assistance programs. Ribera claims that the government has already completed 3,483 million, or “more than 50%,” of the original goal.
The “Roadmap for renewable hydrogen and its sectoral integration” strategy, which has an initial endowment of 1,555 million euros, is one of the strategies included in the Transformation, Recovery, and Resilience Plan. Its goal is to support “driving axes” for hydrogen growth such value chains, clusters, and the creation of “sectoral integration” or “community interest” projects.
