Stadler has introduced the RS ZERO, a significant upgrade to the Regio-Shuttle RS1, emphasizing sustainable rail travel with hydrogen and battery-powered options.

These new propulsion methods aim to reduce carbon emissions, reflecting Stadler’s commitment to eco-friendly rail solutions.

For nearly 30 years, the RS1 has been a vital part of German and Czech regional rail networks, with about 500 units in operation. The RS ZERO maintains this legacy of dependable service while incorporating advanced green technologies. Designed for both electrified and non-electrified lines, it supports the expansion of sustainable rail services across Europe.

The RS ZERO retains the iconic trapezoidal windows of its predecessor but modernizes the design with a sleek LED wing, merging tradition with modern aesthetics. It represents both continuity and innovation in rail technology.

The RS ZERO caters to a range of needs, offering configurations from single to double units with capacities from 70 to 150 passengers. It emphasizes accessibility, featuring low-entry heights and spacious, barrier-free interiors, ideal for all passengers, including those with limited mobility.

Unveiled in Berlin, the RS ZERO prototype demonstrates its versatility with a hydrogen-powered single-car configuration. The model includes spaces for bicycles, strollers, and large luggage, along with diverse seating zones for comfort and privacy. The use of sustainable materials is evident, with eco-friendly flooring from renewable sources and wall panels made of recycled materials, underscoring Stadler’s dedication to environmental stewardship.
