Stargard Municipality Invests in Zero-Emission Public Transport with 11 Electric Buses

The Municipality of Stargard has launched a project to modernize its public transport system by purchasing 11 zero-emission electric buses and six mobile fast chargers.

Co-financed under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan’s Investment G 1.3.2, the initiative aims to reduce air pollution, alleviate traffic congestion, and improve urban mobility. With a total project value of PLN 34,415,400 (approximately €7.9 million), the municipality has secured funding of PLN 24,750,000 (€5.7 million) from the European Union’s NextGenerationEU program.

The project includes the acquisition of 11 brand-new, air-conditioned, low-floor electric buses designed to meet the needs of people with disabilities. These buses will replace older combustion-engine vehicles meeting Euro 3, Euro 4, and Euro 5 standards, significantly reducing emissions in high-density urban areas.

To support the new fleet, the municipality will purchase six two-station mobile chargers for fast charging, ensuring efficient power supply for the buses. Additionally, the project includes training for 42 personnel to operate and maintain the new infrastructure.

The initiative aligns with broader EU goals to promote sustainable urban mobility and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. By deploying zero-emission buses on high-traffic routes, Stargard aims to improve air quality and reduce the environmental impact of public transport.

The total project cost is PLN 34,415,400, with eligible expenses amounting to PLN 27,980,000. The EU funding of PLN 24,750,000 covers a significant portion of the costs, reflecting the project’s alignment with the EU’s climate and sustainability objectives.

The transition to electric buses is expected to yield measurable environmental benefits, including reduced emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx), particulate matter (PM), and carbon dioxide (CO2). By targeting bus lines in densely populated areas, the project will directly improve air quality for residents while contributing to the EU’s broader decarbonization targets.

The project is scheduled for completion by June 30, 2026. Key milestones include the procurement of buses and charging infrastructure, installation of charging stations, and training of personnel. The municipality will also conduct public awareness campaigns to promote the benefits of zero-emission transport and encourage ridership.
