Dutch construction firm Jos Scholman has enhanced its commitment to sustainable fuel by purchasing an additional 16 Opel Vivaro-e HYDROGEN light commercial vehicles (LCVs).
The company has already adopted about 30 hydrogen vehicles, including cars, tractors, and excavators, in a bid to reduce its carbon footprint. This latest procurement reaffirms its dedication to hydrogen technology and the transition to sustainable energy sources and fuels.
Pioneer in Hydrogen Technology
The Opel Vivaro-e HYDROGEN LCVs, supplied by Stellantis, are part of the manufacturer’s pioneering efforts to introduce hydrogen as a viable alternative to electric mobility. According to Uwe Hochgeschurtz, Stellantis COO for Greater Europe, this delivery underscores their position as a leading entity in mass-produced hydrogen commercial vehicles.
The Vivaro-e HYDROGEN vehicles offer a compelling argument for hydrogen power, boasting zero emissions and a substantial range of 400 km (WLTP). Even more impressively, they can be refueled in a mere five minutes. The compact integration of the hydrogen technology into the vehicle design ensures that cargo space remains unhindered, matching that of other Vivaro variants at 5.3 or 6.1 m3, depending on the model. The Opel Vivaro-e HYDROGEN is available in 4.95 m or 5.30 m length, with payloads of up to 1,000 kg.
Green Hydrogen for a Greener Future
What sets Jos Scholman apart from other hydrogen users is its self-sufficiency. The company produces green hydrogen on its own premises using an electrolyzer, making it entirely self-reliant for its hydrogen fuel needs. The electrolyzer operates on energy derived from renewable sources such as wind and solar power, ensuring the hydrogen production process is as sustainable as possible.
“We see a major role for hydrogen in the transition to sustainable energy sources and fuels,” said Robert Scholman, co-owner of the company. “We can even refuel the vehicles with green hydrogen we produce ourselves, so these LCVs will be truly sustainable on the road.”
