The Suape Port Industrial Complex in Pernambuco opened a public call until September 27th for businesses interested in constructing a green hydrogen plant in the state, following approval of the independent renewable energy producer Qair, formerly of the Lucia group, who had submitted an expression of interest for the project.
After the four phases of the project are finished, the corporation showed interest in leasing space in the port in March of this year, allowing for a port movement through Suape of 40,000 tons of liquid ammonia every five days. The operation is expected to begin in 2025, with estimated investments of R$ 20.3 billion. The Port area’s (72.5963 hectares) lease has a 25-year term with the option of an additional five years.
According to the Qair project, 450 direct employment would be created during the operating phase and another 1,200 during the building phase.

According to Porto’s website, “In the future factory, H2V (green hydrogen), the fuel of the future, will be created from the desalination of seawater.”
Two industrial units that produce blue hydrogen from reforming methane steam as a feedstock for the subsequent manufacture of ammonia in two additional units, also to be installed in Suape, are also included in the public appeal.
The CEO of Suape, Roberto Gusmo, stated in a statement that the advent of a facility of this magnitude proves that the port has a great deal of potential to become one of the most significant ports on the continent and in the world.
