Sweco, a leading engineering consultancy, and Dutch energy operator Gasunie are set to revolutionize the energy landscape in the Netherlands.

Gasunie, a major player in the region, is making a bold move away from natural gas, channeling a substantial investment of EUR 280 million over the next decade to embrace renewable alternatives such as hydrogen, CO2, and heat.

Gasunie’s ambitious initiative aims to transform its infrastructure, adapting it to the evolving energy needs and aligning with the increasing demand for renewable gases. This pivotal shift is a crucial step towards creating a sustainable energy future and contributing to broader European sustainability goals.

The significant investment will focus on the adaptation of existing pipelines and the development of new infrastructure. This strategic move positions Gasunie to build a resilient network capable of transporting hydrogen and other renewable gases efficiently. The overarching goal is to establish a foundation for a cleaner and greener energy ecosystem, addressing the imperative for sustainable energy solutions.

Central to Gasunie’s vision is the integration of advanced technology to seamlessly incorporate renewable energy sources into the existing infrastructure. Sweco, known for its expertise in consultancy and engineering, will be a key player in designing and implementing innovative solutions. This collaboration extends from developing hydrogen transport systems to enhancing district heating networks, showcasing a commitment to cutting-edge technology in driving the energy transition.

The partnership between Sweco and Gasunie is poised to unlock new possibilities for renewable energy utilization.
