Abu Dhabi National Energy (TAQA) is in the technological feasibility phase of its two green hydrogen projects, according to an executive quoted by Emirates News Agency.

Farid Al-Awlaqi noted that green hydrogen will play a major part in the power company’s renewable energy portfolio.

It is a crucial component of the company’s 2030 growth strategy, which includes raising its gross power capacity in the UAE to 30 gigawatts from 18 gigawatts and adding up to 15 gigawatts worldwide.

By 2030, renewable energy will comprise more than 30 percent of the generation portfolio, up from 5 percent at present.

The two green hydrogen projects are TAQA’s partnership with Emirates Steel to establish the Middle East and North African region’s first green steel production.

The second is the establishment of a green ammonia production and export facility in Abu Dhabi in collaboration with Abu Dhabi Ports.
