TECO 2030 and AVL List sign a contract for a feasibility study to develop and commercialize a fuel cell system for heavy-duty (HD) trucks.

The feasibility study will begin right away and should be finished in two months. Following its successful completion, TECO 2030 intends to commercialize the Heavy Duty Fuel Cell System and start producing them at the gigafactory and innovation center in Narvik, Norway.

The transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy is only beginning, and TECO 2030 hopes to provide truck fleet owners who want to improve their current and future fleet with a solution through the feasibility study and development of the HD fuel cell system. Millions of trucks are thought to be sold on the HD truck market in only the US and Europe.

According to TECO 2030, in addition to the existing vehicles that can be retrofitted with an HD fuel cell System, there must be deployed approximately one million new zero emission HD trucks in Europe and the US alone by the year 2030. Since a truck has a 13-year lifespan on average, there are a lot of old trucks that can be upgraded with new propulsion systems. Additional heavy-duty on- and off-road applications for the HD fuel cell module include mining trucks, rail vehicles, and buses.
