Tempo Australia enters strategic partnership with GKN Hydrogen

Tempo has entered into a strategic partnership with GKN Hydrogen, a global leader in hydrogen storage technology and a leader in solid state hydrogen storage in metal hydrides.

In the Australian market, the strategic cooperation will focus on renewable energy generation and storage through additional application engineering, development, prototyping, serial manufacture, supply, and assembly of GKN’s HY2MINI, HY2MEDI, and HY2MEGA series metal hydride hydrogen storage units.

The cooperation covers their use and operation in Tempo’s electrical power supply systems or at Tempo’s customer sites in Australia, as well as the provision of inspection, maintenance, and digital solutions for the Units and Systems.

Metal Hydride technique is regarded the safest and most effective method of storing hydrogen, as it stores hydrogen as a solid, not a gas.

It offers low pressure (max. 40 Bar) ambient storage with a volumetric energy density better than that of Lithium Ion Batteries, as well as 700 Bar compressed Hydrogen. The store can be supplied directly from an Electrolyser, and the Fuel Cell can be fed directly from the storage, both without recompression.

Metal Hydride Technology is 100 percent recyclable, has a life expectancy of 30 years, and maintains its energy storage capability over time (no degradation).

Metal hydride hydrogen storage is the only technology currently available that can provide a 100 percent renewable portion (no diesel backup) for stand-alone power supply and disconnected grids that are entirely powered by solar, wind, or hydro power output. We appreciate your continued interest in Hydrogen Central.

Tempo is delighted to join the Global GKN Hydrogen team and views this as the start of a long and mutually beneficial collaboration.

Tempo’s Hydrogen business will be fully launched in the coming months under a new brand identity that will be unveiled shortly.
