The Romanian Ministry of Energy has announced a public tender titled “Development of Hydrogen Technology and Infrastructure Development in Romania 2023-2024.” Published on June 20, 2024, the tender seeks to foster advancements in the country’s hydrogen industry. Interested parties have until August 15, 2024, to submit their bids.

The main objectives of this tender include the development of hydrogen production facilities, transportation infrastructure, and the establishment of hydrogen refueling stations. By investing in these areas, Romania aims to position itself as a leader in the hydrogen sector, contributing to the broader European goal of transitioning to green energy and reducing carbon emissions.

Essential requirements for the tender include:

1. Hydrogen Production: Proposals must include plans for constructing facilities that produce hydrogen using renewable energy sources such as wind, solar, or hydroelectric power. This approach ensures that hydrogen production remains environmentally sustainable.

2. Transportation Infrastructure: Bidders are required to design and propose efficient logistics for hydrogen transport, including pipelines and high-capacity transport vehicles. Ensuring safe and efficient transportation is critical for the widespread adoption of hydrogen technology.

3. Hydrogen Refueling Stations: The tender mandates the establishment of hydrogen refueling stations nationwide, facilitating the growth of hydrogen-powered vehicles and supporting infrastructure for everyday use.

The technical requirements emphasize using state-of-the-art technology to maximize energy efficiency and minimize environmental impact. Proposals must also include comprehensive safety protocols to handle hydrogen, a highly flammable gas, ensuring the protection of both workers and the general public.

This tender marks a significant step for Romania in aligning with the EU’s climate goals and promoting the use of clean energy technologies. The successful implementation of these projects is expected to create numerous job opportunities, stimulate technological innovation, and enhance Romania’s energy independence.

Interested parties are encouraged to visit the Romanian Ministry of Energy’s official website for further details regarding eligibility and application procedures.
