Tree Energy Solutions (TES) and EWE have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to build an electrolyzer in TES’ Green Energy Hub in Wilhelmshaven.
Beginning in 2028, the electrolyser will be installed and used. The electrolyser’s 500MW planned capacity will be increased by one more unit to a total projected capacity of 1GW. This agreement is in accordance with Germany’s strategic energy plan to expand hydrogen supplies and develop clean energy from the North Sea. As Germany continues to diversify its energy supply from renewable sources, the signing signifies a shared interest in delivering national energy security.
In order to manufacture locally sourced green hydrogen, the Wilhelmshaven hub can handle up to 2GW capacity electrolysers with renewable energy sources like offshore wind. This hub is advantageously located on the North Sea coast. The synergies, such as the shared connection to the grid or the use of oxygen in other green energy processes, will be advantageous to both TES and EWE.
