Thermion will develop the Delaro wind farm in Reynosa, Tamaulipas, Mexico in partnership with Siemens Financial Services.
It will have a total installed capacity of 117MW, 100 per cent of which is already engaged and sold to Mexican and foreign companies.
The Delaro project offers Mexico the ability to approach its independence from fossil fuels, offering clean, secure and affordable energy, equal to the 64,634 household electricity demand and CO2 savings equal to 22,8 million planted trees.
Delaro is the first project with Siemens Financial in Mexico under Thermion. State Tamaulipas, a state in northern Mexico, was picked for having some of the country’s best suited winds. According to AMDEE (Mexican Wind Energy Association), in 2019 Tamaulipas accrued 1,163 MW of installed capacity making it the state with the second-most installed capacity in Mexico.
The SG 4.5-145 wind turbine performance offers one of the best levelized energy costs (LCoE) available. This turbine is suitable for medium-wind areas and the Delaro project is the country’s second facility with this model, which is three times the Sun Pyramid in Teotihuacan at 200 meters tip height.
The project boasts 27 wind turbines with blades and towers proudly manufactured in Mexico. It will generate around 400 direct jobs.
