Steelhead Composites gets ASME certification

The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Section X, RP has been certified by Steelhead Composites.

This accreditation guarantees that Steelhead components fulfill the highest requirements in the sector.

Steelhead can now supply its cutting-edge HydrogenCube storage solutions for grid-scale fuel cells, gas turbines, hydrogen buffer storage, green ammonia generation, and other stationary applications because Steelhead is authorized for all three classes of vessel design. According to the standard, pressure vessels made of fiber-reinforced plastic (FRP) must be constructed in accordance with a manufacturer’s design report. It comprises techniques for manufacturing, processing, fabricating, inspecting, and testing the vessels and systems.

Toyota and Kenworth demonstrate fuel cell electric truck performance matches diesel

Toyota Motor North America and Kenworth Truck Company recently announced that they used testing to demonstrate that the performance of fuel cell electric trucks can be comparable to that of comparable diesel-powered vehicles.

Together, the businesses developed the fuel cell electric truck and evaluated it as a zero-emission alternative to trucks powered by diesel engines. The vehicles were employed during the “Shore to Shore” operations in the Port of Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Basin, and the Inland Empire as part of the Zero- and Near-Zero Emissions Freight Facilities (ZANZEFF) project.

The companies’ major purpose for working in this initiative has to do with discovering ways to replace diesel-powered drayage trucks with zero-emission, sustainable alternative options in heavy-duty transportation. The baseline engine for the Toyota-Kenworth T680 FCEF vehicle, codenamed “Ocean,” was a 2017 diesel engine with a daily operating distance of about 200 miles.

Without the requirement for any mid-shift downtimes for recharging as would be the case with a battery electric vehicle, the T680 H2-powered vehicle had a range of slightly over 300 miles on a full tank and while fully loaded to 82,000 pounds (GCWR). The H2 tanks took between 15 and 20 minutes to fill. It could therefore run for several daily shifts, traveling between 400 and 500 kilometers per day.

Strohm secure €15M investment for hydrogen TCP

Strohm, which develops thermoplastic composite pipe (TCP) for hydrogen markets, has concluded the largest capital round in its 15-year history by collecting a €15m investment.

The largest financial institution in the Netherlands, ING Corporate Investments, has committed €10 million to the investment. Additionally, existing shareholders Shell Ventures, Chevron Technology Ventures, Evonik Venture Capital, and HydrogenOne have each contributed €5 million to the investment.

HydrogenOne contributed €10 million of the first €14 million raised in August 2022; Strohm’s other major stockholders contributed the remaining €4 million.
HydrogenOne contributed a total of €11.25m to the round.

Strohm was able to increase capacity to provide its TCP products to offshore green hydrogen and carbon capture and utilisation and storage (CCUS) industries by speeding up the expansion of its manufacturing processes thanks to this fundraising round.

Atawey gets 15 million for hydrogen filing stations

The Savoyard industrial company Atawey is one of the three local businesses that won the “Première factory” request for projects, which was put forth by the government as part of the “Industrial and Deeptech Startups” initiative, together with Limatech and eCential Robotics.

Atawey will be able to construct 60 green hydrogen filling stations annually starting in 2025 thanks to an investment of about 15 million euros. This investment will be backed through fundraising as well as public funding, and that fundraising should close very soon.

With the goal of having 400 recharging stations established by the year 2025, Atawey is relying on the goals of the Hydrogen plan, implemented by the French State as part of France Relance. Atawey has already installed 25 hydrogen stations in France.

Hydrogen Safety Museum opens in Eumseong

In Eumseong, North Chungcheong Province, the first hydrogen safety experience facility in the country has been established.

The Hydrogen Safety Museum, an interactive hydrogen gas safety complex facility, was launched in Chungbuk Innovation City, according to an announcement made by Chungbuk Province on the 15th.

This facility, which is situated in Duseong-ri, Maengdong-myeon, Eumseong-gun, has two storeys above ground and a total floor area of 2154m2. Both a hydrogen safety information center and a gas safety practice center are included.

The Hydrogen Safety Promotion Hall was developed as a video experience area where visitors can readily comprehend the history of hydrogen, why it is a safe fuel, how society will transition to using hydrogen, and more. Direct use of gas facilities and training for crisis management are both possible in the gas safety experience hall. After a pilot run, the facility will begin full-scale operation in March of the following year.

The Hydrogen Safety Museum is expected to draw 80,000 visitors a year, according to Chungcheongbuk-do and Eumseong-gun.

SinoHytec approved for Hong Kong IPO

A listing hearing for the Hong Kong Stock Exchange was recently approved for SinoHytec, a Chinese maker of hydrogen fuel cell engines, with Guotai Junan International and Zhifu Investment listed as co-sponsors. SinoHytec will make history by being the first company in the hydrogen energy sector to list on Hong Kong’s stock exchange.

SinoHytec was founded in 2012 and specializes in the design, development, and production of fuel cell systems, including fuel cell stacks, for commercial vehicles like buses and trucks. With Chinese vehicle producers including Foton Motor, Yutong Bus, and Geely New Energy Commercial Vehicles Group, the corporation has forged cooperation relationships. Additionally, the buses created in collaboration with SinoHytec, Toyota, and Foton Motor were chosen to serve as official Olympic service vehicles in Beijing.

Since launching its first commercial product in 2016, SinoHytec has supplied more than 2,900 fuel cell units to more than 20 Chinese commercial vehicle manufacturers. The business introduced the first 240kW-rated vehicle fuel cell system in China in December 2021. More than 2,700 fuel cell vehicles were powered by the company as of December 5, 2022, in China.
